Allen Doyle was credited on Sunday Honma 904 Irons with his fifth win in two years on the SENIOR PGA TOUR when the final round of the $1.3 million Toshiba Senior Classic was rained out.
Doyle had a one-stroke lead over Howard Twitty and Jim Thorpe at 6-under-par after a soggy second round on Saturday Honma 713 driver. Torrential rain on Saturday night drenched the Newport Beach Country Club and a bleak forecast caused the cancellation.
The third and final round never got under way. Doyle Honma Beres BP-1010 Putter, who has finished no worse than 15th in six events this season, Honma golf clubs claimed his first win since September. With a first prize of $195,000, the 51-year-old jumped to second on the money list behind Bruce Fleisher.
Twitty and Thorpe finished in a tie for second at 5-under 137 golf clubs.
Doyle birdied five of the final eight holes Saturday to cap a 4-under 67 Golf equipment. Defending champion Gary McCord struggled to a 3-over 74 Saturday and finished seven shots behind at 1-over par.
